Solo Shows From Traditional Troubadour
Damien Dempsey
From Donaghmede on Dublin's Northside, Damien Dempsey's earliest musical influences were the post-pub singsongs that his parents used to have at their home. Today his unique sound reflects the influence of traditional Sean-Nós as well as his musical heroes like Bob Marley and Elvis Presley. In 1997 Dublin Town, Damien's first commercial single, reached No. 18 in the Irish charts, reappearing on his 2000 debut album They Don't Teach This Shit In School. The Negative Vibes EP, (2002) featured Sinéad O'Connor on the title track and led to an invitation to support Sinéad on her 2002/2003 Irish, UK and European tour. Since then Dempsey has gone from strength to strength, and in June 2008 hereleased The Rocky Road a collection of traditional Irish songs which featured contributions from Barney McKenna and John Sheahan of the Dubliners. Back from his travels and fresh from a summer playing to massive audiences at Croke Park supporting U2 and as a headliner at Electric Picnic, Damien Dempsey announces a run of intimate solo dates to the end of the year including shows at Whelan's on December 17th, 18th and 20th.
