Toy Story 2 3D
Starring: Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Tim Allen, Tom Hanks
Details: US/92mins G
After the shenanigans of the first film, Andy's toys are living in relative bliss once more. Buzz is still a bit deluded, but for the most part he and Woody are co-alpha toys, and share the responsibilities admirably. But when Woody is nicked by a sleazy toy collector, Buzz and the rest of the gang venture into the outside world to rescue their mate. Meanwhile, Woody meets two new toys also in captivity; one he fancies, the other a slightly unhinged older toy.
Director John Lasseter was adamant that this film was subconsciously designed to work brilliantly as a 3D experience. But that's missing the point somewhat; although the set pieces and animation are predictably slick, it was the core characters and story here that resonated with movie goers. That's still here in abundance, and is the main reason both films were mammoth box office hits. So, while Disney and Pixar may be using this rerelease as a reason to peak excitement for the highly anticipated third film next year, you can do that from the comfort of your own home without forking over a tenner to see it in the cinema.
