Video: Interviews with Rachel McAdams & Channing Tatum
Starring: Channing Tatum, Jessica Lange, Rachel McAdams, Sam Neill, Scott Speedman
Details: US/103mins 12A
Tatum and McAdams are a ridiculously happy/beautiful couple, who are involved in a car accident as they slow down in the snow to neck each other. Both managing to come out alive, she suffers serious brain trauma and wakes up to a dose of amnesia - while he walks away relatively unscathed. It's a very specific kind of amnesia, though, one that involves her forgetting her entire life with her husband thus far. Going back home to live with her parents, Tatum's dutiful husband must make her fall in love with him all over again. Only, why would he? Apart from (obviously) looking like Rachel McAdams she's as vacant as a NAMA owned apartment block.
There are moments in The Vow that veer towards affecting. Then there are moments that as repetitive as modern mainstream filmmaking gets. You have seen this film before countless times; this one just has more of an ostensibly solid hook, and one that will quite probably bring in the valentines crowd no matter what I say. This is a production surprisingly devoid of soul, and full of below par performances and useless peripheral characters. Seriously, this group of friends look like extras from an IKEA commercial.
As for the leads, these two should've sparked off of each other effortlessly. McAdams is one of those actresses that can light up the screen with her smile - but she's not just that. Her amiability is a gift that few other performers of her obvious beauty possess. Alas she's stranded in a clueless character here, and can do very little with it. Similarly Tatum is an underrated leading man who is capable of subtlety few give him credit for, but almost mumbles his way through proceedings.
Those that cry at heavy-handed dramas that purposely attempt to manipulate their audience best bring the tissues. Everyone else find your heartfelt melodrama

"Inspired by true events", with an emphasis on the word "inspired"... The Vow is a Hollywoodised story about finding love, losing it and finding it again. Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams are the sweet, perfectly matched (of course) married couple whose lives are knocked for six when a car accident wipes out 5 years of McAdam's memories. As she re-adjusts to her new life and is unable to remember her husband, he tries to win her back. The Vow is reminiscent of 50 First Dates, but only more stretched out. The performances are good throughout and even Tatum shows a soft side to his usually tough-guy image. It all feels rather contrived and manufactured though. I'd imagine the real-life story is much more moving and heart-breaking. This is the sugar-coated version -easily digestible and just in time for St Valentine's Day. All the same though, given the time of the year it just about gets by on its bittersweet charm and the strength of its earnest performances.

The premise of the story is that after a wife has a brain injury that results in memory loss, that she can fall in love with her husband again. Rachel McAdams has been in more than one rom-com before but this couple seem unlikely and you never really root for them to staying together. Channing Tatum, although good looking appears dozy and you can't imagine McAdams being mentally stimulated by this pretty and nice fella. After the brain injury, she has some choices to make - will she be an artist? will she marry a lawyer? and it is so tedious that you want it to race to the finish so that you can escape. Its no 'Love Actually'

I really enjoyed this movie, yes predictable, but I lovvved it :) For me this was the best rom com to be released in a while. Worth going to see, a great feel good movie, if your not into the typical American style chick flick then I would advise giving it a miss. Enjoy

The only way id go see this festering turd of a movie is if Eva Mendes and Scarlet Johannson were sitting on either side of me and had the hotel booked for afterwards. If your girlfriend stomps her foot on date night and insists on seeing it then you need to grow a pair. Seriously.
