The Son's Room

Giovanni is an affable Northern Italian psychoanalyst with an eclectic client list. Although good at his job, Giovanni loves nothing more than doting over his family. Sunday morning, as he plans a jog with his son Andrea, Giovanni gets a call to visit one of his patients. Left in the lurch, Andrea goes diving with his friends, never to return. Much of the film is centered on the family's attempts to come to terms with their loss, and Moretti handles things quite brilliantly. The acting, and direction are beautifully controlled, the material is handled humanly but without crass sentimentality.
