The Princess and the Warrior
Starring: Benno Furmann, Joachim Krol, Lars, Marita Breuer
Details: Rudolph, Melchior Beslon.
While rather somber, Tom Tykwer's follow up to the international phenomenon, Run Lola Run, is still a genuinely involving affair. Lola's Franke Potente plays Sissi, a shy psychiatric nurse, who is completely devoted to her patients. However, Sissi's outlook on life changes radically after her life is saved by ex-soldier Bobo (Furmann). Months later, she tracks him down, believing that he could be the man of her dreams. The Princess and the Warrior may lack the same visual punch that made Run Lola Run such a rare treat, but it's a far more mature work. Thematically, Tykwer is still obsessing over the notions of chance and coincidence, but these issues are not allowed to completely dominate, merely acting as extra dimensions to a mature, human storyline. Potente is impressive, but it's Furmann who really shines in his portrayal of the socially inept Bobo.
