The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Starring: Billy Boyd, Brad Dourif, Christopher Lee, Dominic Monaghan, Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, John Rhys-Davies, Liv Tyler, Miranda Otto, Orlando Bloom, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen
Details: US / 179 mins / (12PG).
In terms of the narrative, 'The Two Towers' is a little more complex than 'The Fellowship of the Ring'. The story follows three central threads: Aragorn (Mortensen), Gimli (Rhys-Davies) and Legolas (Bloom) make new allies in the shape of the Rohans, led by Theoden (Hill) and prepare for war. Meriadoc (Monaghan) Peregrin (Boyd) have been captured by the orcs but also establish alliances while Frodo (Wood), Samwise (Astin) and the devious Gollum (voiced by Serkis) go to Mordor to destroy the ring..
Space permits much detail but 'The Two Towers' narrative is a multi-layered, enthralling one, and Jackson shows no little skill in moving between the three strands. Having not read the books upon which the films are based, I'm in no position to evaluate whether the characters' experiences are faithfully dealt with, or whether defining episodes are recreated in a satisfactory manner. However, as a film, 'The Two Towers' works extremely well and, quite rightly, will be ranked as one of the best of the year. It's not without fault - although the story moves at a fluid pace, Jackson could have trimmed a good twenty minutes off the running time and one has to question his decision to allow Liv Tyler onto his film set. Still, the final hour, most of it taken up by the battle at Helm's Deep, is absolutely mental.

The Lord of the Rings the Two Towers in my opinion is just as good a film as the first one which was excellent. Peter Jackson, the director really did a good job on making these movies. The second film again was filmed in New Zealand which has breath taking landscape and really made watching this film a pleasure to watch. The movies are based on the books which are famous worldwide, as are the films. The scenery in the film is just stunning. The plot of the 3 movies is, Frodo (Elijah Wood) and his companions Sam (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominic Monaghan), pippin (Billy Boyd) who are all hobbits and have to take a powerful ring to Modor and “cast it into the fiery depths of which it came”. You meet new characters and lose others throughout this brilliant movie. The greatest battle in all the movies takes place in this one, The Battle of Helms Deep. In this battle thousands of Orcs march towards helms Deep. Gandalf (Ian McKellen), legolas (Orlando Bloom), Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), and many more have to help and protect Helms Deep from being destroyed and everyone killed. While two hobbits, Fordo and Sam, make their way closer to Mordor. The two hobbits have someone helping them to find the way, Gollum (Andy Serkis), a creature who's life was ruined by the Ring. He shows them the way, but can he be trusted?.. You have to watch the first film in order to understand this one, but it is well worth it. The films are long, about two and a half-hours each. I have to say though, this film is just so amazing! The place it is filmed in will take your breath away and the acting is fantastic. I would definitely watch this!
