Mr. Bean (Atkinson) wins a trip to Cannes in a church raffle and takes off for the south of France, camcorder in hand. However, pratfalls and mishaps are never far away and Bean unwittingly kidnaps Stepan (Baldry), the son of a famous Romanian director. Not long after that, passports and wallets go AWOL and the unlikely buddies are forced to live by their wits until they find Stepan's father. Will Bean prevail and will his video diaries scoop an award at the Cannes Film Festival? Has it really been ten years since the first instalment, Bean, hit the big screen? Bean was aimed solely at the American market and had our monosyllabic idiot spout more lines than usual. If that stuck in the throat of the fans of the series, they'll be glad to know that Mr. Bean's Holiday returns to the spirit of the series in having Bean speak the bare minimum of broken French. Mr Bean's Holiday is not for adults - that's a given - but will kids laugh at the jokes and buffoonery they have already witnessed in the series? There are some nice touches, though, and the montage of Bean busking on the streets is one of the rare highlights.
