Wow... Whatever you do, don't miss the stunning opening sequence for the latest Lars Von Trier film. It sets the scene for a doomed tale of two sisters (Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg) facing the end-of-the-world. A mysterious planet dubbed Melancholia appears from behind the sun, setting it on an apparent collision course with Earth. Told in two parts, each part focuses on one of the two sisters as they deal with familial conflict, a ruined wedding and a looming threat of destruction. Lars Von Trier is always going to divide audiences and even I'll admit that his films veer between pretentious and remarkable. However, Melancholia is one of those remarkable films that stays with you long after the credits roll. Kirsten Dunst is superb as well, showing the kind of range that she doesn't normally get to do in Hollywood. Whatever you want to say about Von Trier and his controversial beliefs, he certainly knows how to make an interesting, provocative film. Recommended.

Tyler Durden

"Kirsten Dunst is superb as well, showing the kind of range that she doesn't normally get to do in Hollywood." ------------------------------ And her perfect naked body. Not THE reason to see this ponderous piece of pretension, but her perfect breasts were certainly a high point during the predictable pomposity. Tesco will be selling this and 'Tree of Life' as a bargain 5.99 box-set in the not so distant future...
