I Don't Know How She Does It
Director: Douglas McGrath
Starring: Greg Kinnear, Kelsey Grammer, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Jessica Parker
Details: USA/88mins 12A
Parker is working mother Kate - the main source of income for her kids and jobless husband (a likeable Greg Kinnear). She has a demanding job in a finance company, so when a new account sees her possibly travelling all over the country with Pierce Brosnan's flirtatious colleague, another obstacle in an already complicated life rears its head. Luckily, she has a loyal best bud (Hendericks once again better than the supporting role she's playing) and her kids adore her.
I'm sure there are many women, and indeed men, out there who could relate to Kate and the time she has juggling her family and career. But a relatable set-up does not necessarily make for a good, or even worthwhile film. I can see how it worked as a book, where the author can use her lead character to literally speak to the audience; but while Parker does that here to occasionally amusing effect, her problems may seem trivial to an audience that would love an oppurtuinity to juggle a job with kids.
Parker is charming in the lead role, but she's typecast as Carrie Bradshaw now and there are elements of her most popular role here. Brosnan looks like he's just collecting a cheque, while Hendericks does a solid job as the supportive pal. If anyone comes out better than they went in its Kinnear's out-of-work husband. It's the trickiest role in the film, yet his character feels the most organic to the plot thanks to some stellar work from the Oscar nominee.
All in all pretty mundane stuff. There's nothing here that you haven't seen before. Crap title too.

I Don't Know How They Made It. Saw trailer - looks like such an awful waste of time and money. It'll have it's market though. All you baby-photo-on-your-facebook-profile-picture-touting gals ... you know who you are! I can see the chaotic cinema scenes now as throngs of women, bursting with the self-importance that only having successfully procreated brings on, descend on to cinemas en masse to see this whilst all pushing each other and shouting "Out of my way! I have a chiiiiild!!". Maybe they'll let me eat popcorn and watch the madness. It's got to be better than the film! :P It's times like this that I'm glad not to be a film critic!

Pandabat you hit the nail on the head there. If I had a penny for every time a millitant mother rammed a pram into my ankle, or nearly knocked me off my bike whilst on their mission to get their little brats to school...well I'd have about €2, but you get my point.
