Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II
Director: David Yates
Starring: Alan Rickman, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Gary Oldman, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Rupert Grint
Details: UK/USA/130mins 12A
We first meet Harry, Harmonie and Ron as they bury Dobby after the heartwrenching conclusion to the first part of the final Potter chapter. But Dobby won't be the last familiar character to die, as an epic battle between the nice sorts on Team Harry and the horrible swines on Team Voldemort is about to kick off. It's revelations galore as the final film answers long gestating questions, while setting up a violent stand-off between Harry and his no-nosed foe, Lord Voldemort. Bring your tissues.
Director Yates has been on board now for four instalments and is a dab hand weaving his way around this intricate universe. The core actors have grown up on these films, and all of them give their best performances to date as fully fledged adults, but it's still difficult to pick any future stars from the group - Watson has the best bash at movie stardom. As a film it's undoubtedly loyal to its source, but would've surely worked better with the shaving of some characters, which may have streamlined the plot a bit more. That may be why even the smallest roles are played by recognisable British mushes.
Such is the success of this franchise, the filmmakers have never even really attempted a recap on the previous film, or offered any regurgitated character info for newbies. These are films for fans of the books, and it's assumed that anyone fully on board has their own private diploma from Hogwarts - those fans are vast enough for it not to matter. Those that fall into the cinema mildly familiar with the characters should enjoy some tense moments and grandiose staging, but ultimately find themselves lost with the barrage of characters and subplots all injected to come together neatly at the lavishly staged conclusion.
A fitting end to the series, fans will adore it, while those who haven't read the books will be as lost as ever.

I can't wait for this film! Overall, the series has been disappointing. But The Deathly Hallows Part 1 was fantastic. I can't wait!

This is actually the end of an era - It's no wonder Jo Rowling is starting this Pottermore thing - I spent a good lot of my life between the age of 11 and 19 obsessing over Harry Potter and while I was never that enamoured of the movies, I'm glad they have enabled me to continue the obsession albeit on a lesser scale (plus I can't wait to see this bloody over hyped kiss between Ron and Hermione! get that vestiage of my teenage self out of the way once and for all!)

Still far from a great, or even a good film, it offers the type of satisfactory closure to a series not seen since Lord of the Rings. --- b**ch, you are a hater. Far from a great or even a good film? Yet almost all the other reviews for this film praise it. And come on, 3/5 stars? The same as Transformers: DOTM? Pfft.

Haha the angry Potter ranks have assembled. I personally have no interest in these films, but I love the reactions to negative reviews

So excited to see this! I feel like i've grown up with Harry, Ron and Hermione. Although this is the last of the movies, it's not the last of Harry Potter! I know, this magical adventure will be something that I will always remember!

It seems, Mr.Sheridan, from your review, that you "fall into" the group of people that are cinema groupies and not fans of the books...I mean really...."Harmonie"???? From that & the 3 star rating you've given the film, it's pretty obvious you skipped over reading the source of the story...the literary bit.

I am fully aware of how much the films haven't reached the echelons of the books but i still look forward to this movie. the book is fresh in my head and the story is a beautiful one. if you say that the movie has the emotional punch than i am happy. this movie is a bout friendship, family and the forces of evil trying to ruin all good. the special effects in the trailer are phenomenal but this film will be more than that. and i would prefer to read a review from a Harry Potter fan, through and through

Not a terrible film, but definately think the first part last year was much better, the last five minutes really let the whole film down, i know this follows what happens in the book but could have been acted/produced so much better!

I've been a Harry Potter fan since the very start. Since before the movies even came out :)

All my family really enjoyed this movie and we'd go to see it again. I was disappointed with the last book - 100 depressing pages in that tent and 20 pages for the big finale - and then the ending 19 years later! I think the script writers did a fantastic job with what they had to work with and I think the movie was better than the book!

Great movie for all the family, the movie really tied up all the storylines, and enjoyed the 19years later part at the end - make sure you stay for that :)

Definitely worth seeing and a fitting end to the 8 movie stint. However, would all you book fans please quit the smug 'well if you haven't read that books, you won't understand what's going on'. it's not rocket science. Voldemort bad, Harry good. Harry grows up, Voldemort visits from time to time, they have big battle at the end. WE GET IT!. Right, we won't have ALL the back story, and some of the significance of the releationships between people won't shine through, but that's the fault of the movies, not the people who didn't bother to read a set of children's book. I read books, just not those. Have a go at a book called War and Peace kids. Then talk me about books.

i've read the books, i've been a follower for a long time, but would never be snobbish towards some one who hasn't read the books. i know a lot of people who haven't read the books, but followed the movies. they get the general idea of it. although i do agree 100 pages of the trio being stuck in a tent was a bit much. while the final battle scene got so little. but still loved the last book, although not my favourite. now oh my god, the last harry potter film ever was fantastic, i thought the first part was brilliant, but 2nd part was fantastic, ron and Hermione kiss was spot on :D the battle scene was fantastic, it was epic, it wasn't boring and full of drama. loved the scene between Bellatrix and Mrs Weasley scene, i cheered, was waiting to see that scene for a long time. just loved it. 10 out 10 from me

This was a good movie but i thought that since it was the very last Harry Potter it should have been better.

The only parts I didn't like were the awkward Voldemort/Draco hug, and the silly part where Harry grabs Voldemort and jumps off the roof, thought these two scenes really let the movie down but that's just me being nit-picky, the action and the emotion were brilliantly done, was crying at some parts and laughing at others, definitely the best of the bunch, pity the director didn't direct all the movies, cos mostly they were muck

This should have been the ultimate climax of the series but as per usual the the director who could not keep up with the book or even get close. Sad to say but since the third installment this series has disimproved everytime a new movie was released

Like all the movies before its better than the books (which is not hard) Is this the best of the movies probably not, Goblet of Fire or Half Blood Prince should get that honour. As a movie this is well done and is by far the best fx of all the movies. Hey its over for now, just wait a few years for the next installment... (Pottermore anyone??)That said like all the Potter movies for me its turn brain off watch turn brain on leave simple.

fairly disappointing i found. the ending was cheap. very well made as were all the HP films but somehow i found the plot in the last one to be much weaker and rushed compared to the earlier parts.... not the ending i had hoped for. it was the first HP film where i was watching the time. NEVER a good sign lol.
