Set in 1969, three young flies - Nat (Trevor Gagnon), IQ (Phillip Bolden) and Scooter (David Gore) - become obsessed with space travel and, fuelled by Nat's grandfather's (Lloyd) stories of adventure, plan to hitch a ride on the next moon launch. As the three friends sneak on to Apollo 11 and take to the stars, jealous Russian flies work hard to sabotage the mission. Although 3D is fun, Fly Me To The Moon isn't; it might entertain the very, very young, but past the visuals (3D is always a winner and the space scenes are full of wonder) there's not a lot to recommend it. The story is flat and dull with ... the ... dialogue ... spoken ... at ... such ... a ... slow ... pace ... you end up finishing the lines for the characters. Animation, bar the recent Wall E, moves at such a cracking pace the kids don't have time to get bored – there's always something happening - but Fly Me To The Moon seems to be an exercise in 3D alone. With funny, endearing characters and witty lines jettisoned (the funniest line being 'Oh my Lord of the Flies!'), this animation never gets off the ground.
