Boo, Zino and The Snurks

While it's true that you can never tell a film's quality by the strength of the title, you wouldn't have to be a betting man to wager that Boo, Zino and the Snurk: Back to Gaya is unlikely to be confused with a picture anyone over the age of ten would (nay, should) have any interest in seeing. Based on an reportedly popular kids television show, the movie follows the misadventures of Boo and Zino, a pair of odd creatures who star in their own television show where they do see off the continual threat of the Snurks. However, the series increases in popularity and leads to the canning of a professor's own show, which leads to some disgruntlement. A vindictive sort, our academic friend has a nasty side and swears vengeance on them - by messing around with the life force of their home world of Gaya.

Still with me? Unlike the slew of other animated movies doing the rounds, Boo, Zino and the Snurk: Back to Gaya is a choppily animated affair, more reminiscent of a video game. Although the lack of visual dexterity could not be excused, it might be more bearable had the story been up to much. It's not - a confusing blend of fairytale and sci-fi that never finds a beat. Drop the kids off and go to see something else.
