Although the controversy surrounding An Everlasting Piece threatens to make a mockery of the film itself (Sir Steven Speilberg's DreamWorks studio backed the project but didn't promote it), Barry Levinson's black Northern Ireland comedy still has much going for it. McEvoy and O'Byrne play a catholic and protestant respectively, who - despite their religious differences - decide to corner the city's wig industry. Brimming with sideswipes at the bastions of religion and politics, An Everlasting Piece may not be to everyone's taste. Things fall somewhat short in a disappointing final third as a hackneyed message is revealed, but overall, the generally witty script makes it a worthy experience.
