Peter Sheridan's cinematic version of Brendan Behan's most famous book is certain to divide audiences. Those familiar with Behan and his memoirs of his time in a British labour camp will find it ludicrous that the preppy-looking (and sounding) American Hatosy plays the author, while, more ominously, serious liberties are taken with the text. In his defence, Sheridan may claim that The Borstal Boy is merely inspired by the book, but his vision doesn't translate to the big screen for a sustained period. Disappointing.
