Walt Price (Macy) heads up a team of filmmakers who descend on the quiet New England town of Waterford to shoot a movie. Since their star's sexual practices ensured that they were expelled from their original shooting location, the film crew must ingratiate themselves with the Waterford townsfolk as quickly as possible. He may specialise in 'wordy' drama, but David Mamet displays a gift for satirical but accessible comedy with State and Main. Although it's essentially a rebuke to the Hollywood star system (and occasionally too much so), Mamet has written and directed a very likeable comedy drama with more than a few laugh out loud moments.
