Brown Coats Assemble!

Firefly and Serenity fans unite for The Producers’ screening of Serenity, Joss Whedon’s cinemamatic adaptation of Firefly, his popular but short-lived sci-fi series, in The Sugar Club, Dublin on 22 April.

Beloved television cult director Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) makes a spectacular first foray onto the big screen with Serenity. Released three years after the wildly adored television series Firefly left its devoted fans wanting more, Serenity, the show’s big-screen follow up, appealed to devotees of the show and newcomers alike with its mix of space western, comedy, and drama.

Serenity is a spaceship full of perpetually on-the-run renegades lead by the roguish Captain Malcolm Reynolds (the spectacularly charming Nathan Fillion) who will do anything for cash. After being on the losing side of a civil war, Reynolds and his crew will smuggle, cheat and steal to keep their lives simple and off the grid. That is until one day when a routine transport of a brother and his sister turn the crew of Serenity into the most sought after folks in the galaxy. The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board Serenity herself.

In addition to the stellar stunts, realistic graphics, and an often haunting score, the film’s actors display a rare chemistry and is full of snappy Whedonesque dialogue.

“Aim to misbehave” — dress in your space pirate best and enjoy a Serenity or Firefly space cocktail with a screening of one of the most fun and action-packed sci-films of the last decade . A film worth watching again and again!

You can’t stop the signal!
