Cube plays one-time sports shop owner Nick Persons who is now married to Suzanne (Long) and taken on her two kids Lindsey (Allen) and Kevin (Phillip Bolden). Needing more elbowroom in their crowded apartment to launch his new sports website, Nick moves his family to the countryside where they buy a beautiful house from camp real estate agent Chuck (McGinley). The good times don't last too long as the house turns out to be a lemon and the fact that Chuck is the contractor, city inspector and local midwife doesn't help matters. A remake of the 1948 Cary Grant comedy 'Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House, Are We Done Yet?'; 'Are We There Yet?' like it's predecessor, is pitched squarely at the kids. But, the slapstick it hopes to get the guffaws for feels tired and beyond hackneyed. This movie seems to only exist as a vehicle for Ice Cube; he's proved he can do the angry young man (Boyz In Da Hood, Trespass), action (Anaconda, Three Kings), adult comedy (the Friday series) and now he's shown he can do middle-of-the-road family humour - just in case any similar role comes up again in the future. There's not a lot to say about 'Are We Done Yet?' and the best advice I can give you is to buy The Money Pit on DVD - it'll be cheaper than the cinema ticket, infinitely more enjoyable, and there's a limited chance of some young fellah kicking the back of your seat.
