I thought it was a morally bankrupt film that was all style, no substance. I felt empty and used after seeing it. It's one of those films where you wish the director would come onstage afterwards and explain himself. Still, it's best to go to it anyway and make up your own mind...
Visually stunning, but lacking in any real motive or plot.
I'd agree with the above comments - looked great, but empty. There's a good film in here screaming to get out. it's like the director had a paintbrush in one hand and a sledgehammer in the other, and most of the movie is made with the sledgehammer - voiceover's saying how beautiful things are in Florida while we see girls peeing on the side of a dirty road, a lecture about how violence changes you which involves characters who are then exposed to violence etc etc etc But on the other hand, there are some really nice touches. The hold up of the diner is brilliantly shot from the getaway car, and some of the visually thematic motifs established to contrast and connect the characters are really well done. But all in all, it's very "what is this trying to say?"
Why does the film have to be saying something? moral ambiguity is what made Spring Breakers work. watch it and make your own mind up.
