Gavin, Completely agree. When it comes to directing, Joe Wright has a pair but the concept doesn't always work. In fact, some scenes are like nails on a blackboard. However, Seamus McGarvey is an Oscar nomination lock for his cinematography.

I have three words for this movie . BORING , BORING , BORING . slow senseless drama , many people walked out during the movie . AVOID
I took my father to see Anna Karenina today, as he's a big fan of the book. He was horrified at what Joe Wright has done to it. I disagree though - I quite liked it, even if the theatre setting jars at times (e.g. the toy train). I agree with Steven above that some scenes are like nails on a blackboard. Still, I have to admire Wright for coming up with something different.
I enjoyed it. Its visually stunning. Its like watching a live play and a movie mixed together. Really enjoyed it.
