As Wetherspoons continues their move in to the Irish market, they have sealed a deal on a premises in the center of Dublin as well as a spot in Waterford.
Wetherspoons has already opened in Dun Laoghaire (or at least is set to tomorrow) and has a premises in Blackrock, but it seems that they're continuing their expansion in to Ireland by purchasing a city centre location in Dublin.
The pub chain has reportedly sealed a deal for a huge premises on Dublin's Camden Street, which will be their biggest branch in the country to date. The site has been subject to a bid for planning permission for a 143-room hotel, which Wetherspoons would operate if their bid is successful, and is spread across eight buildings.
The site is currently Ireland's largest homeless hostel, Camden Hall, and will continue to be used as such until work starts on the project, which is expected to create 75 jobs and will cost around €4 million. Speaking about the deal, Wehterspoons chairman Tim Martin said "We are pleased to have acquired this excellent building in the heart of Dublin. Our aim is to build a pub and hotel on the site and we believe both will be assets to the city."
They have also opened talks over a location in Waterford that would combine two buildings on Broad Street, in addition to the buildings they have already secured deals on in Swords, Blanchardstown and one in Cork city centre.
