The Taoiseach was on Primetime last night, and while he's already pretty unpopular with the water charges debacle, he went and made things a whole lot worse with this soundbite.

Anyone out there who is working or has worked on the minimum wage will know exactly, to the penny, how much it is that they get a year, a month and per week, mainly because it involves a lot of scrimping, saving and planning just to get by on under €18,000.

As it turns out, the Taoiseach doesn't sound too familiar with how much it is, despite being in charge of the country, after he quoted it as being nearly double that figure: €35,000.

If we're to be fair to the Taoiseach, what he meant was that (as the CSO figures show) the average industrial worker earns €35,000 a year, but if he wants to legally change the minimum to the level he quoted, we'd be more than happy to take that.
