Sorry Sky News, but you can't just take things whenever you decide they're yours. Did your mother teach you nothing?
There was outrage and uproar today after Sky News correspondent Richard Suchet decided that, following her nomination for a BAFTA, Saoirse Ronan was suddenly a British citizen, saying "I think we can take Saoirse Ronan as one of ours".
No, no you cant @JOEdotie @paddypower @Independent_ie @entertainmentIE @thejournal_ie pic.twitter.com/L994wkgjXo

We think not, and so did a lot of others.
@SkyNews and @BAFTA Michael Fassbender and Saoirse Ronan are Irish. Do you need a map????
— pamela heaney (@pamelaheaney13) January 8, 2016
@SkyNews @SkyNewsPR Saoirse Ronan is not British!!! Stop claiming Irish people as British. #SaoirseRonan #saoirse #SkyNews

@SkyNews just heard saoirse ronan described as "one of ours" & on to say its a "good showing from the brits" talking baftas #britsatitagain

Shout out also to @SkyNews for deciding to claim saoirse ronan as their own. How about leaving the Irish actors to the Irish people. Thanks😷

Sky news just now 'Saoirse Ronan, we'll claim her as one of ours' when they were talking about the #BAFTA nominations 😂😂😂

what is up with sky news/british media claiming Irish people as their own.. Saoirse Ronan is IRISH you can't 'claim' her 😂
— Rachel Farrell (@ohheythererach) January 8, 2016
Obviously Brits can be willing Saoirse Ronan to win but she's still NOT British. So, do not refer to her as so. #SkyNews

Great lark on Sky News. New York-born Saoirse Ronan, who grew up in Carlow, Ireland, is described as 'one of ours' (ie. British).
— Samuel Luckhurst (@samuelluckhurst) January 8, 2016
The whole sky news calling saoirse Ronan British situation is so annoying and insulting. I'm sorry she's IRISH WE ARE AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY

Hey @SkyNews get your own Saoirse Ronan and stop trying to steal ours ! #BAFTA2016 #SaoirseRonan

Sky News are the latest to claim an Irish star as British. Yeah, cause Saoirse Ronan sounds English ðŸ˜'ðŸ˜'ðŸ˜'😧 #BAFTANominations

Meanwhile Richard Suchet tried to explain away his statement in the biggest case of 'Dig up, stupid' so far this year.
@RTE_TEN She's from the British Isles & whether you like it or not, Brits will be willing her to win. Glad you got an article out of it tho.
— Richard Suchet (@SkySuchet) January 8, 2016
@RTE_TEN of course she is. But many Brits will still see her as one of their own. It's a consequence of geography. A compliment I'd say.
— Richard Suchet (@SkySuchet) January 8, 2016
You can take your compliment and put it somewhere our mothers wouldn't want us to mention Richard.
