Veteran broadcaster Terry Wogan has died at the age of 77.
The Limerick native is understood to have died from cancer. A statement released by his family says that Wogan "passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time."
Born in Limerick, Wogan began his career with RTE before he left in 1967 to begin working for BBC Radio. Although his career began in radio, Wogan would become known for hosting gameshows such as Blankety Blank and Come Dancing, as well as his work for Children In Need and the annual Eurovision.
He is survived by his wife, three children and five grandchildren.
