Protests against Irish Water have been ugly, but now it's gone right down the toilet now.

Abtran, which the government outsources its back-office dealings to, received a registration letter for Irish Water with actual human poo inside the letter.

The staff member, who it's believed opened the letter, had to receive precautionary medical treatment, but it's understood they were not sent to the hospital.

Gardai have been informed of the matter and are investigating the matter.

Staff at Abtran have admitted this isn't the first time offensive material has been sent to them via Irish Water protestors.

Used tampons, offensive drawings and vicious letters have all been mailed to Abtrans, via Irish Water, and that it's having a direct impact on staff there.

One staff member admitted, "I have ended up crying on couple of occasions, such is the abuse you have to deal with over the phone."
