It's tin foil hat time people.

According to The Independent, Facebook engineers have the ability to log into your account as you whenever they want and see all of your private content, no password or permission required.

This came to light after a (now ironic) Facebook post from music producer Paavo Siljamaki, who visited Facebook's LA office and an employee asked to access Siljamaki's profile. This is what he said went down.

When asked by The Independent's i100, Facebook said that employee access is "tiered and limited by job function" and that any and all access is monitored to prevent abuse.

Per i100,Facebook said:

We have rigorous administrative, physical, and technical controls in place to restrict employee access to user data. Our controls have been evaluated by independent third parties and confirmed multiple times by the Irish Data Protection Commissioner’s Office* as part of their audit of our practices.

Two separate systems are in place to detect suspicious patterns of behaviour, and these systems produce reports once per week which are reviewed by two independent security teams.

We have a zero tolerance approach to abuse, and improper behaviour results in termination.

If you're wondering why little old Ireland is mentioned, it's because all private Facebook information outside the U.S. and Canada is held by Facebook Ireland, which means our own Data Protection Commissioner’s Office has to oversee it. Comforting, no?.
