A gas explosion occurred earlier today, next to a petrol station in Knocklyon, South Dublin.

It's understood that a gas main was fractured while work was carried out next to the Applegreen Petrol Station.

The fire was reported to Gas Networks Ireland at 4.30PM and Dublin Fire Brigade have been on site, dealing with the blaze.

Two men were injured in the blast and are in Tallaght Hospital where it's reported that they have minor injuries.

The fire, which has been burning since earlier today, is only just now believed to have been put out, according to local reports.

Video footage shows the fire reaching out from the main road, with some residents being evacuated from their homes.
