A man is currently being treated in a Dublin hospital for shock after saving his dog from the Tolka River early this morning.

It's understood that the dog's owner dove into the freezing waters of the Tolka to rescue his pet.

The dog was giving chase to swans at Fairview and fell into the Tolka when his owner sprang into action.

Six ambulance crews were called to the location and the man and dog are now resting in hospital.
