This really isn't the week to be travelling, is it? First the rail strikes on Monday and now this.

According to AP, it looks like Iceland has raised its aviation alert status following the eruption of Bardarbunga volcano on the Vatnajokull glacier.

What does that mean? Nothing yet, to be honest. No above-ground eruption has taken place, although it does mean that there could very well be in the next few hours.

Let's repeat that so you don't start freaking - nothing has happened and no flights have been cancelled. Yet.

According to journalists and scientists on the ground, the eruption is mainly sub-glacier - meaning that no magma has reached the surface and there's no ash-cloud like there was before.

You may recall all the way back in 2010 when Eyjafjallajokull (try saying that with a few drinks in you) totally messed up everyone's life when it erupted and caused an ash-cloud that cancelled well over 100,000 flights.

It may be a repeat of that, however, as yet, nothing's happened to make anybody think that.
