If you were on Twitter last night, you'll have seen some incredible pictures and lots of the lightning emoji.

London and surrounding areas experienced one of the worst electrical storms in recent memory, with lightning forks actually turning parts of London into a clear day for a few seconds.

Sure enough, some people used it as an opportunity to be a smart-arse.

Lightning reportedly struck London a whopping 110,000 times over the course of the night with the storm lasting for several hours.

The recent heatwave has been cited as a cause for the spectacular display last night.

As for Ireland, one or two spots in the North experienced some lightning although nothing compared to London.

That may change tonight if the cloud formations continue westward towards us.

Have your cameras ready and this on your playlist.
