We want to believe that Bill Murray randomly turns up at events and is a great guy to everyone he meets, and thanks to social media, it turns out that may well be true.

We've all heard the stories about Bill Murray passing people on an escalator in the subway or randomly turning up at people's houses for parties and such, but we've often found ourselves wondering if they're true or not.

He has gained somewhat of a legendary status for interacting with the general public like no other celebrity, and now that people have smartphones and social media, we get a chance to see that yes, he does do these things and he is our favourite human. His most recent such appearance was just last week at an ice cream social that was being held in his honour, and he was good enough to show up.

CVT Soft Serve, based in Los Angeles, were the people who came up with the idea when they learned that Murray was shooting a movie nearby, so they announced the event on social media and invited the crew of the movie to come down for free treats. Of course, Murray showed too, and they have the snaps to prove it.

Joe, who runs the ice cream company, told Gawker that he just decided to invite the whole neighbourhood round in the hope that Bill, his idol, would show, and sure enough he did. It was, as it turns out, as a result of following some sage advice from his aul fella: "Like my dad always says ‘You’ll never dance with the pretty girl unless you ask.’". Too true.

There have been plenty of other legendary encounters with Bill, and one of our favourites is this one from a few years back. We're not sure that he could get any cooler, really.
