Technology has come forward in leaps and bounds, but this piece of tech might just be the weirdest one we've heard of.

The universities of Southampton and Rochester, in conjunction with Microsoft (yes, that Microsoft), are in the process of developing a new type of lingerie that could help women control their cravings for food in times of emotional distress.

The bra, which doesn't have a name yet, measures the wearer's heartbeat.

Through a connected smartphone and app, it sends you a message warning you to not engage in overeating if it thinks your emotions are raised.

Yes, really.

The app then gives you a list of healthier alternatives instead of donuts, cronuts, three-in-ones, peanut M&Ms, cakes, etc. Sorry, we got a bit of drool on the keyboard.

The project is conjunction with an academic paper on the subject, entitled 'Food & Mood: A Just-In-Time Support For Emotional Eating'.

Support. Heh.

Anyway, the lingerie / app is a long way from commercial trials - even if it gets that far. However, it says a lot that Microsoft and academic universities are looking into this kind of thing.

What do you think? Would you use this device or is it really insulting?
