Hard Working Class Heroes 2008

Halves

Halves' live show is something truly captivating; a mix of synched visuals, strings, brass, and electronics, anchored by soaring guitars and live drums. They released their second record 'Haunt Me When I'm Drowsy' in may, and are set to tour the country after their slots at Electric Picnic, Oxegen, and Eurosonic.

Seen them a few times, and even though the sound in meeting house square was really quiet they were still great.Comment published 24/09/2008 20:45:20

hey ah jaysus, i think the problem with the criticism thats on peoples pages on this particular site is that most of it is unnecessarily nasty. people actually trying to get personal with members of bands. its one thing if someone doesnt like a song and wants to make it known, its another to just start slagging the individuals in the band. im totally agree with you that we need to distinguish between good and shite but surely it can be done in a way that aint too close to the bone. check out what some fuckface called mandy moo has to say about the grand pocket orchestra and youll see what i mean.Comment published 03/09/2008 21:48:28

that's teh bleedin' problem, luv.. there's too many on the 'learning curve' who haven't heard of a 'rehearsal room' and 'song writing'. as a matter of fact i was talking about neither fred nor halves, just responding to that ridiculous begrudgery comment further down the pageComment published 12/08/2008 16:21:04

Halves, Fred and so many more bands are brilliant and even the ones that don't rock our worlds still have something to offer - ever heard of a learning curve? ... if people enjoy the music and they enjoy making it then what's the problem? Relax the cacks n get off your holier than thou music soapbox....Comment published 12/08/2008 14:28:21

powers that be.. cop on.. just because a band is irish doesnt mean that you should blindly support them - i think weve been there before and look where it got us (the frames). it's not supporting irish music that's very important - its supporting GOOD irish music thats very important. unfortunately if you dare to criticise in this country it's immediately dismissed as begrudgery or pettiness. there are a lot of great irish bands out there that would do us proud, but there are also a lot of SHIT irish bands who need to be rounded up and locked in a large dark room where moths can nibble on their leather jackets.Comment published 12/08/2008 13:57:58

Nicely said - though I haven't seen many nasty comments on my quick scan of the charts, have they been taken down? Still, you're right about begrudgery - the great thing about the festival is that there's so many very different acts, there's guaranteed to be something for everyone! My only worry is that some bright spark is going to schedule FRED and HALVES for the same time!! I'll be gutted if I miss either, and I've yet completed my Bilocate-a-matic.Comment published 12/08/2008 13:40:26

the powers that be says

Begrudgery is an attitude which has often been identified as "the Irish disease". not my words i just googled the word and its so true...look at all the negative comments people are writing about other bands. have the people who are commenting on here ever heard of the bands there slagging off or are they doing it just cause there helping out there own band? music is meant to be enjoyed, and if you dont like just find something you do like, theres so many great bands listed on here like the hot sprockets, halves, brothers movement, the list goes on...get behind it people instead of destroying it, new music is a good thing!!Comment published 12/08/2008 09:42:07
