Movie adaptations of games have fallen out of favour in recent years.
Nobody's really sure why as some of the greatest videogames ever made have been movie adaptations. GoldenEye on the Nintendo64 defined the console-based first-person shooter whilst Terminator 2's arcade games were incredibly popular in the early '90s.
Since the mid '00s, however, studios have switched more to mobile for tie-in gaming and the success has been so-so, however newly revealed footage of a planned Avengers game might have turned the tide.
The game, which was developed by THQ Australia, was a sort-of first-person action RPG with players controlling Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow as they fought through an invasion by the Skrull Empire. The game's plot was essentially the Secret Invasion storyline, written by Brian Michael Bendis - who's now working on Netflix's Jessica Jones series.
YouTube channel Unseen64 did some pretty decent investigative work and uncovered a raft of information and footage on the cancelled game, including a lot of very cool footage.
Take a look and wonder what might have been.
It's always a shame when you see games like this that were so close to completion being cruelly forced under by circumstances beyond their control.
