It's been one of the major successes for Wii U and, at long last, Super Mario Maker is finally being ported to the portable 3DS.

For those that don't know, Super Mario Maker is essentially the old 8-bit and 16-bit version of Mario - that's the NES Super Mario and Super Mario World - with a level creation tool. You might think that's not really up to much, but it's become a hugely popular game for the Wii U and revitalised Super Mario for a new generation.

The wildly addictive game involved players from around the world creating incredibly detailed and terrifying difficult levels for Super Mario and spawned an entire community in the process. Many players have been clamouring for a 3DS port and, at long last, Nintendo has finally delivered.

Somewhat.

According to a statement by Nintendo Europe's chief, Satouru Shibata, the 3DS version of Super Mario Maker will NOT come with the ability to upload levels created by players. Instead, you'll be able to share levels via local wireless with other players. Not only that, you'll also be able to share unfinished levels, again via local wireless. Not only that, you won't be able to search for specific levels. According to Shibata's comments, you'll only be able to play "recommended" levels that have been uploaded from Wii U players.

All of this might turn off certain players, however for others, it's a way to play Super Mario Maker without having to invest in a Wii U. The 3DS continues to be hugely popular in Japan and, for players there, sharing via local wireless isn't all that much of a dealbreaker for them.

What do you think? Would you play Super Mario Maker on 3DS without these features? Let us know in the comments!
