If you had a PC in the early '00s, chances are you either heard about or owned a copy of StarCraft.

The seminal real-time strategy game became an instant sensation and gave birth to modern eSports as we know it. There was even a point when StarCraft multiplayer matches were screened on national television stations in South Korea. Really. Of course, there's been sequels and spin-offs but the original PC game still holds a place in players' hearts - and they can rekindle that love again pretty soon as it's been confirmed by Blizzard Studios that StarCraft is getting a HD remaster.

The fully remastered version of the 1998 game will be made available with 4K Ultra HD support, widescreen support, modern online gameplay and much, much more besides. What's more, the original campaign for the game will be part of it and you'll even be able to play the original version of the game as well, if you want.

No specific date has been set aside for release aside from Summer 2017, but it's still pretty cool to see a classic of PC gaming getting a fully authorised, proper HD remastering.
