As Pokemon GO begins to slip down the charts on the iTunes App Store, its player numbers are beginning to slowly go down.
While many cite the fact that, well, it's not a great game to begin with, others point to the blatant cheating by so-called GPS spoofers who are holding gyms with higher-tier Pokemon that are almost impossible to find.
As we reported a few weeks ago, Niantic Labs has shut down PokeVision and other Pokemon GO trackers and now, in a recent statement, it's starting to crack down on cheaters. "After reviewing many reports of in-game cheating, we have started taking action against players taking unfair advantage of and abusing Pokemon Go. Moving forward, we will continue to terminate accounts that show clear signs of cheating."
As well as falsifying your GPS location, Niantic Labs will permanently close accounts that are "using emulators, modified or unofficial software and/or accessing Pokemon Go clients or backends in an unauthorized manner including through the use of third-party software."
As well as this, bots in Pokemon GO for levelling up are also being shut down and the previous penalty of soft banning - no gym battles, no catching of Pokemon - has been done away with in favour of a one-strike policy.
