Although the reports about Legend of Zelda being turned into a Netflix series turned out to be false, Netflix has now officially confirmed that Castlevania is being turned into a Netflix TV series.

The series was announced as part of Netflix's new slate of programming for the coming year, but didn't specify when the show would hit the streaming service - or even give any kind of detail as to the show itself. The animated series is being developed by Canadian studio Wow Unlimited, with rumours that comic-book legend Warren Ellis has written the script for the series.

Adi Shankar, who was a producer on Dredd and that gritty Power Rangers viral shot from last year, was said to be involved with an animated series based on Castlevania last year, but it's not known if Shankar is involved with Netflix's animated series.

Regardless, an animated series based on Castlevania is going to be pretty strange as the game's been around for thirty years and yet, nobody's ever tried to take it on.

We'll have more details as they come available, but for now, let us know what you make of it all in the comments!
