One of the most popular apps used for in-game chatter and voice communication has taken steps to shut out alt-right and neo-Nazis from its service.

Discord, which has close to 45,000,000 users, announced yesterday evening that it was permanently closing the altright.com server on its service, as well as a number of accounts related to Charlottesville. In a statement released on Twitter, Discord said that its mission was "to bring people together around gaming. We're about positivity and inclusivity. Not hate. Not violence."

The service's move comes as neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer was dropped from hosting service GoDaddy and, later, Google. Discord did not state how many accounts were closed as part of the move, but it is known that a number of servers relating to white supremacy groups, neo-Nazis and alt-right groups have been permanently banned.
