The problems and controversy surrounding GamerCon Dublin aren't going away.

In an e-mail sent to GamerCon ticket holders from e-ticketing company Eventbrite, it explained that the company "were recently notified that the event organizer is unable to provide refunds due to financial difficulties," and that they have "dipped into (their) own pocket to issue refunds."

This e-mail was confirmed as legitimate by Eventbrite, who said they have been communicating with GamerCon organisers repeatedly and cooperating with them on the question of refunds ever since issues with the event occurred.

Speaking to entertainment.ie, Eventbrite Senior PR Manager Sebastian Boppert said that refunding out of their own pocket was not a regular occurrence for the company as they are a ticketing and event technology platform, and that refunds are normally the obligation of the organiser. He continued that the situation with this particular event was such that it necessitated action from Eventbrite to do right by the attendees.

As we previously reported, GamerCon Dublin sold 12,000 tickets on both days, March 18th and 19th, against a maximum capacity at the Convention Centre of 9,400 - meaning that the event was oversold by 2,600 tickets on both days. The furore surrounding GamerCon reached international media, with Kotaku reporting on the event.

GamerCon's website now reads that the refunding process has closed, as all refunds for tickets were due to be submitted within 14 days of the event.
