Virtual reality appears as though it's going to be the next big thing in gaming, thanks to Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus, to name just two devices that are hoping to enter the market and make themselves part of your gaming set-up.

However, it seems that Denny Unger, creative director at games developer Cloudhead Games, has a bit of a concern over exactly how realistic this virtual reality will turn out to be.

His concern is not that they'll be rubbish, but rather the opposite; that the virtual reality that the gamer will experience will be too intense, and could end up causing a death as a result of playing computer games, in particular horror titles, where users are supposed to be scared and get a fright from certain scenes. We certainly nearly passed away after playing Resident Evil: Nemesis anyway, while Silent Hills (which has Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro on board) looks like it could be so scary that we at least cry and hide in the corner.

While this does sound a little bit far-fetched, the folks at Geek.com had decided that there's something in it, adding that between the headset, a STEM pack (which will help to track your movements and include them in the visual feedback) and the omni-directional treadmills that are being designed to complete the ultimate virtual reality home-gaming system, the chances of a death are pretty high, possibly even "inevitable", because the sensations would be too intense.

While the devices will ship with health warnings, most people will probably ignore them (you take a break away from the screen for every hour of gaming you do, right?) and those with pre-existing health conditions could find themselves in a serious bit of bother.

So what do you think, will virtual reality be too real? Are people going to die from being scared out of their wits?
