World Rally Championship 2 is the official rally racing game for the 2011 rally championship season. The game features a pleasingly diverse 90 stages through out 15 locations. There’s nine car categories which can be raced through 25 types of terrain and weather conditions. The game also includes a 16 player online mode and as well as career mode. The latter is a modest improvement on the one in the first game and players have to fulfill team and sponsor-based objectives. However, curiously for an official game the featured sponsors are fictional rather than real world ones.
Despite the range of additions and features, this games feels rushed. The presentation is poor and the in-game menus are hard to read and cumbersome to navigate. The cars are even trickier to control and the irritating commentator has an awful habit of repeating himself. The graphics haven’t changed and they look chunky and awkward compared to what you can see in more successful racing games like 2010’s Gran Turismo.
It’s not all bad; the rally academy is useful for those determined to master the cars and the customisation options will please the hardcore but for most racers, there’s little reason to upgrade.
