Nearly twenty years after it's original release, the seminal, and some would say pioneering, Wolfenstein returns to reek havoc in all it's World War II, supernatural glory. Playing as Allied agent B.J. Blazkowicz, your job is to prevent the Nazis from developing the mysterious Black Sun Energy - which you see first in the rather sublime intro movie - into an unstoppable weapon.

The game itself will be instantly familiar to anyone even only moderately experienced in first-person shooters - run, point and fire. Of course, such a simple approach is endlessly fun in the likes of Halo and Half Life, and Wolfenstein is no different, mainly due to the fact it is always so satisfying to track down the Nazis as they shout warnings of your arrival in their own over-the-top, imitable way.

As this is a Wolfenstein game, there is, of course, a supernatural element incorporated into the story. And this is where it may alienate some gamers. Some seeking the sheer drama and emotion of the likes of Call of Duty will fail to feel as engrossed in a game where, at times, you aim to take down what is essentially a zombie sporting a Nazi uniform. This doesn't detract from the game, but it does detract from the sense of realism one experiences in the COD games.

But firing bullets and watching them destroy the well presented environments over cries of Schnell!! never gets tiresome. Plus, the various multiplayer options are solid, if not nothing new.

A decent effort.
