I despise these cash-in games that coincide with events - no doubt next month, I will be reviewing some vile interpretation of the Olympics. EA are notorious for this behavior, the worst example being the division of the qualifying and tournament games of the World Cup a few years ago. Seriously, who wants to play just the qualifiers? Anyway, they have learnt their lesson, and here offer the entire campaign, from qualifiers right through to cup glory.

On the plus side, they have taken the opportunity to showcase some new niftiness that I hope will make it into FIFA '09. The game is internet-centric and for the online community, each game you play counts towards an overall leaderboard that will, at the end of the tournament, spew prizes! Also, features like 'captain your country' let you play as one player on the squad - a decidedly different way to enjoy the game, but it does have its challenges.

I would say this though: it is not a keeper, rent it. If you want a football game long-term, get FIFA.

If you are a Pro Evo fan, avoid it like the plague!
