A game traditionally associated with the PlayStation, it seems that Microsoft have made a huge coup in capturing the next Tomb Raider game as an exclusive for the Xbox.

The announcement came today at Gamescom in Germany, where both Xbox and the game's developer Crystal Dynamics were thrilled to reveal that the next installment in the franchise and the second of the new, rebooted games, Rise of the Tomb Raider, would only be available on Xbox.

According to The Verge, the head of the Crystal Dynamics studio, Darrell Gallagher said "We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past. We believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief, and backing of a major partner like Microsoft."

It's certainly a huge shift from the folks behind Tomb Raider, but with the extra marketing push from the power of Microsoft, it may indeed boost the game's reputation again. While the last title was a solid effort, it didn't quite sell as well as hoped, so this may be a move that's advantageous to everyone. Well, except those Lara Croft fans who own a PlayStation...
