Heh heh! I can't stop smiling. MarioKart.. on the Wii.. awesome! For those of you who have lived in outer space for the last ten years, the MarioKart series of games is one of the most popular Mario titles ever created. Having begun its life on the SNES, it quickly established Nintendo in the adult market, as students all over the world bet their food allowances on it.
All of the classic Kart action is here - plus a host of new vehicles, characters and weapons. Races are, as always, packed with zany tracks, shedloads of pickups and the occasional short cut. The game comes with a free-wheel peripheral, which once mastered, adds a whole new dimension of fun. But apart from the wheel and the ability to play online, there is nothing new here.
After the innovative Mario Galaxy, I think people expected this MarioKart title to step it up a gear. Maybe it's a case of suffering from its own success. The battle mode is now a team event, but it lacks the energy it had in previous titles which makes it a bit of a bust.
Overall, though, it's another winner from the Mario team, and a must-have for anyone with a Wii.
