Kinect RUSH: A Disney-Pixar Adventure

Publisher: Disney Interactive Studios / Asobo Studio
Cert: 3+
Platform: Xbox 360 Kinect
Genre: Family

Kinect RUSH is set in a giant Disney-Pixar theme park, in which players can walk around and take part in various attractions, albeit without the ques. These attractions or rides take the form of scenes inspired by various Pixar movies such as Toy Story, the Incredibles and Cars. There are 15 adventures, which encourage gamers to to walk, run, jump, and pretend to fly. Although Woodie and co are voiced by different actors, the developers have done an admirably job of creating a believable Pixar experience.

The cynic in me could criticise this title for being nothing more than a series of mini-games but it’s hard not to be taken in by a game that lets player battle the Omnidroid from the end of the Incredibles. Anyway, this game isn’t aimed at me. It’s aimed at kids. My six-year old son loved the Cars racing game but he found the walking around the theme parks bits “boring”. Although, the responsiveness of the Kinect is forgiving, it took him a while to learn the controls. There were a few moments when I had to stop from swearing because he kept inadvertently walking around in circles, instead of onto the ride.

Pixar haven’t quite figured out how to translate their success on the big-screen to consoles but Rush is a step (literally) in the right direction.
