This is one of those games that gets fanboys backs up. You really can't say a bad word against it (or its predecessor) without visiting upon yourself the wrath of god. Well you know what I say... bring it on!

What we have here is people buying into hype. Okay, I'll admit it is atmospheric, and maybe the lack of plot helps to create an air of chaos, but that would only work if you had some sort of empathy towards the characters. You don't. They are generic stereotypes that grunt pithy one liners. It is the equivalent to a Stephen Segal movie. The hard work is done, it just fails to deliver the lines with any conviction.

Okay in fairness (and in the interest of keeping my head) there are good points - the multiplayer. Let's face it, the storyline is there for show. The real attention is with the online modes and here the game shines brightest.

If you are intent on playing through the campaign, do yourself a favour and put it on hard, I played through the first half of the game on medium and didn't die once.

Rent or Buy: Buy (solely for multiplayer)
Graphics: 5/5
Game Play: 3/5
Replay Value: 4/5
Overall: 3/5
