EA's latest incarnation of what is now safely cemented as the premier football sim on any format returns in the form of FIFA 11. Like last year's, there's nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary, but as EA get closer and closer to perfection on the pitch this isn't so much of an issue.
Instead, it's more of a slight tweaking here and there, maintaining what is an already excellent game but also listening to it's millions of fans and adding options many have asked for, Be a Keeper being just one.
One disappointment, however, is the creation mode. In fact, it's incredibly frustrating, mainly because it's not really a part of the game at all. Unlike the brilliant – and still unsurpassed – edit mode of Pro Evolution games of old, in FIFA 11 the player must first go online and access EA's specially created website to create a player or team. While the idea of interacting and sharing creations with players all over the world is a good idea, the fact these items can't be created within the game first and then uploaded to the world is baffling. It's a minor gripe, but one that grates when you see how much as been put into everything else.
However, this is FIFA, so the gloss is there, the players, the strips and stadiums, and on the pitch it's a joy. It's the best there's been, but only marginally better than last year.
