Although technically a sequel to Codemasters' F1 2009, this latest instalment boasts a brand new graphics engine, all the drivers and teams that took to the track for the 2010 season, with all 19 circuits stunningly recreated, the night-lights of Singapore and the sun soaked vista of Monaco's harbour to name but two. And the tracks are given an extra drop of realism with the inclusion of a new realistic weather system. This means the track must gradually adapt to the varying conditions that can take place during any given race, meaning some spots will more susceptible to rainfall than others.
The main attraction of the game, however, is the career mode. In fact, before the main menu screen even appears the player is thrown head first into a press conference, easily the best and most innovative way of inputting your name in any game ever. So much during your career happens off track, with press conferences and pre and post race interviews making or breaking relationships with team-mates. Career objectives are determined by what team the player drives for – for some winning races is imperative, while others simply demand a point. There's plenty to enjoy here and the scope, if somewhat shy of what Codemasters may have initially hoped, still manages to engross. When a game looks and plays this well, its hard not to be.
