If there's one game that deserves to be played in the dark with the sound turned up, it's Dead Space 2. The game prides itself on its shocks. Think hacking off the legs of a monster and dismembering its head will kill it it? Walk closer and think again. The atmosphere is very much reminiscent of Alien. The metropolis the game is set in is dripped in shadow, dark reds and greens and there's always an eerie noise coming from behind you, or above.

Issac Clarke is a lot stronger this time round and much is made of his famous mining suit. He's also on the verge of insanity and there's plenty of moments when Clarke's delusions seep, quite effectively, into the main game. Needless to say he's got plenty of new toys including telekinetic powers. The game also includes a surprisingly okay multiplayer mode where players assume the role of either humans or necromorph.

Dead Space 2's limitations are the same as most on the rails sequels. The gameplay mechanics aren't quite as fresh and the genericness of the 'go here, do this, then progress' set of objectives is more apparent. That said the game made me jump three times in the first half an hour.
